SOS...Mission Accepted

by

"The spirit of the Lord God who lives in you, has anointed you to bring good news to the afflicted. He will send you on missions to bind up the brokenhearted." (Isaiah 61:1a ~ JCB paraphrase~) Within the first few minutes of our time together, I realized this visit was going to be different from any other time we had previously shared. A broken voice choked back tears and punctuated the words spoken, "I don't know how much longer I can go on... I don't think...I just can't do this any more!" I was witnessing the overwhelming, dark, distress that physically embodied this precious soul. The painful heavy burden she was carrying was no longer able to be contained. It was overflowing and splashing about the room soaking every inch of space. On that day, it was spilling out upon me and it was like the shock of ice cold water being splashed in my face. I drew back for a few seconds in silence. It had touched me in a way that defied being ignored. Within seconds, the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" was replaying in my mind. Suddenly the recollection of Clarence the Angel accepting the George Bailey assignment became my assurance. This was an assignment from God! How many times have you had a similar experience? More often than not, you felt uncomfortable, fearful, and certain that you weren't equipped to be anyone's earthly angel. We tend to brush this type of situation to the side and keep on moving. We convince ourselves that God couldn't possibly want "me" to do anything! I am ashamed of how many times I have to admit to being made aware of such a situation but not accepting the assignment. If you are reading this and you are the one who is in despair, please do not give up! There is hope! Perhaps, you just don't have the strength or courage to ask for help. Maybe you feel there is no one who even cares. God loves you so much that He sent His only Son to die for you. He will accept you as His own and rescue you from despair. He promised to hear your prayers and make a way for you. You can trust in God's promises. You don't have to go through difficult times alone. Call on God, in the name of Jesus Christ, right now. Ask Him to forgive you for any sin and to send you an earthly angel to walk with you through your difficult trials. Believe that He will strengthen you and provide you with a way to get through today and tomorrow. Don't give up! Please reach out for help and call someone today. "Come unto Me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) To those of you who have found hope in Christ and have a secured place as a child of God the Father, may this be a strong reminder. We have a job to do! We are His messengers! Right now, there are many who are feeling hopeless with no strength to go on. There are people, right under our nose, who will not make it through another day, unless someone accepts the assignment and intervenes in their life. "Your assignment, if you agree to accept it..." "Mission impossible," Absolutely not! It is a "Mission Empowered" by the Holy Spirit to be Jesus to others. God uses ordinary people to get His work done. Help someone get through the day. "What a wonderful God we have; He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does He do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us." (2 Corinthians 1: 3 & 4 - TLB)
