Eight Unexpected Ways To Find Happiness

by

"How would you describe happiness?"Everyone wants it but it means different things to different people. Some say, "If I could just win the lottery, then I would be happy." Others find happiness in their families. And there are those who just can't seem to get enough things to make them happy.

But all these are chasing the world's happiness. If you really want the secret to REAL happiness, read on.

In Matthew chapter five, Jesus begins what is popularly known as the greatest sermon of all time, the Sermon On The Mount. He starts with eight ways to be happy (or blessed) in life. Truly happy. Not superficially happy, but blessed with the joy and favor of God. It is a feeling of completeness or sufficiency. These eight ways are called the Beatitudes and they are found in Matthew 5:3-10.

At first glance, the content seems to contradict the concept of being blessed or happy. But on closer look, you see the reward of checking your Godly attitude. These rewards extend inward, upward and outward. Let's take a look.

1. BE POOR IN SPIRIT

2. MOURN

3. BE MEEK

These indicate how one would see themselves in spiritual or physical poverty, mourning over their sinful state; being unable to do anything about it without the blood of Christ to cleanse them. But, take notice; theirs is the kingdom of heaven! Their reward is true happiness in their heart. Now they are happy, for they are comforted in salvation, their mourning is changed to dancing and they have the strength of God through His Spirit residing in them! God is lifting their heads up again. No more shall they mourn and have no hope, for He has forgiven their sins and made them new. The old has passed away! Hallelujah!

ARE YOU DANCING IN THE HAPPINESS OF YOUR SALVATION?

4. BE HUNGRY AND THIRSTY FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS

5. BE MERCIFUL

6. BE PURE IN HEART

These are those who not only want God in their life but desire His leading so much so that it is HIS righteousness, mercy, and purity which is shown to others. This is compassion from God. Now they are happy, for they are now filled, they will be shown mercy and they shall see God! Their happiness is upward, for their lives matter for God and not just themselves. It is HIS character coming through them for HIS glory.

THE REWARD FOR TRULY SEEKING TO KNOW GOD IS TRUE HAPPINESS.

7. BE PEACEMAKERS

8. BE PERSECUTED FOR THE RIGHTEOUSNESS' SAKE

Here in verses nine and ten are those whose changed lives make a difference in their world. They have let God's Spirit so change them from within that it has exuded out into their everyday lives. They make peace because they love all men.

They have God's righteousness to the extent that it causes conviction to come upon others which may in turn cause persecution on themselves. They are indeed happy and it extends outward for the world around them to see the work of God in them. (Matthew 5:16) Their lives are causing others to look to and live for Christ! They are called sons of God and theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

ARE YOU AMONG THESE HAPPY PEOPLE?

WILL YOU DETERMINE TO PUT THESE BE-ATITUDES TO THE TEST?
